This month: Successive Repetitions

"Jane could not believe it! Bear had performed reliably in practice and this response was totally unexpected. He certainly had never done this before.

Just the day before the trial, he had turned in a near perfect performance.

So why did he not drop? He was not the kind of dog who was overly distracted at dog shows and had always been an attentive worker. Could he be getting "ring wise", or was he lying awake at night thinking of mischief?"

Could Jane had fallen victim to the principle of successive non-rewarded/reinforced repetitions?

The number of successive non-rewarded/reinforced repetitions for any trained response is finite.

The principle applies to every trained response we expect from our dogs.

Which exercises do you think are most frequently involved?"
